MANGAWEKA.
From Our Own Correspondent.
At the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 18th instant, before Mr Thompson, S.M., a lad named R. H. Liddicoat was committed to the Supremo Court for sentence on a charge of forging the schoolmaster’s name to a Standard VI. certificate, thereby trying to got employment on the New Zealand railways. A lad named J. Hall was also committed to the Industrial School. In the case J. Gannon v. B. Knight, plaintiff was non-suited. From evidence before the Court Gannon forwarded a suit to Utiku to the order of Knight, but Knight had never received it. The concert, in aid of the local library was well attended, the hall being packed. The programme was well arranged, consisting of songs, Highland dances, comedy, etc., and each ;item was well received. The local institution will no doubt benefit to the extent of about £lO. It is rumoured that Mr A. Wanstall intends erecting large aud commodious business premises on the site of the late fire.
Mr W. Bryant is at present away on his annual holiday for a few weeks, the relieving officer being in charge of the local post office.
