A HARD TRAMP.
Press Association. Cheistchukch, July 1. Delaney and Gibbons, two prisoners who escaped from Hokitika gaol last Tuesday, and wero captured at Lake Coleridge on Saturday evening, were brought before Mr Day, S.M., to-day, and remanded to Hokitika. Their tramp across the ranges must have been a terrible experience in the bitterly cold weather with insufficient clothing, little or no food, and the frequent fording of ice-cold rivers, only to bo, to their surprise, arrested at the last place where the police were expected to be. Tho men bad procured outside clothing to replace their prison garb, but had retained their gaol underclothing. They stoutly denied their identity when arrested, but the underclothing gave them away. The men have virtually been travelling day and night from the time of their escape to their lodgment in the lock-up.
