COURTS.

Per Press Association. Palmerston K, June 11. The sittings of the Supreme Court opened this morning before Mr Justice Cooper. True bills were found against Richard Daly, bigamy; F. Cross and B. Morse, theft from dwelling; L. 'M. Murray, cattle stealing; Albert Lovelock, forgery. The latter pleaded guilty and received two years’ imprisonment, and a similar sentence was imposed on Frederick Cross for theft from a dwelling. Morse was remanded for the report of the probation officer.*] The prosecution in the bigamy case broke down very unexpectedly at the Supremo Court this morning. The first witness for the Crown produced a copy of the certificate of accused’s former marriage in 1895 to which Mr Inues, counsel for the defence, objected pointing out that accused, Daly, was referred to as “Richard” and “Robert” Daly in the same certificate. His Honor, after scrutinising the certificate, remarked that it was a strange blunder and die commented upon _ the gross carelessness -of some official which led to the breakdown of the prosecution. The Prosecutor intimated that lie coiild go no further in tho case and His Honor directed that tho jury acquit the accused, which was done and Daly was discharged.
