LAND VALUES.
The Cause of Inflation. Press Association. Pahiatua, June 11. During the clicussion at the County Council meeting on the question of Government “valuations »pr. Boltoh said that lauu in the district was changing bauds for prices at which it was impossible for any man to make a living. This was brought about by speculators •who bought on paper, aud as low as ton per cent of purchase money was all that was paid. The result was that where little cash was required the price of land was raised each time the laud changed hands. These fictitious prices gave the valuer a basis to go upon but at the same time were inflicting'hardship on the legitimate farmers who worked their laud. It was resolved that the Council emphatically protest against tho manner in which the valuation of county lauds is made in so far that valuations are made too frequently, aud requests that a valuer fie appointed who has knowledge of the district.
