SIR JOHN FORREST.

Sir John Forrest has returned from Brisbane, and expresses himself as pleased with the decisions of the Premiers' Conference on the question of the relations of the States to the Commonwealth, but disappointed that no favourable decisions were reached regaiding the State debts. While in Queensland Sir John Forrest made extensive inquiries as to the sugar industry in the northern part of the State. H 9 considers that the industry is'profitable. Some planters are depressed as to the outlook, but the majority are hopeful. The kanakas have almost disappeared, -and are now practically a thing of the past.
