HOCKEY.

Tho Prince of Wales' Birthday being a holiday the Palmerston North Post Office team journeyed to Martou to play tho. Martou Club, on Mrs Humphrey's grounds. Pressure on our space to-day prevents us giving a full account of the game, which was very vigorously contested throughout, and resulted Palmerston 3, Martou nil. The Martou team must be congratulated on the way they played, having a very uphill game to fight, and they held their . own. A few mistakes were made, but. as this is their first match the errors must bo overlooked, and although beaten they played a very good and gentlemanly game, which speaks well for a young team. The Palmerston team are a very tough lot, and play with good judgment and hit well. They are, yery fast and their fielding is very good. For the winners Crumb, Goodwin , and Hammer shone out well in the forwards r.ud Moore and Minoguo for the backs. For the losers D, Smith, Orwin, and Signall played well for the forwards and Swinburne, Cutfield and Parkinson for the backs. Mr L. Giorgi made a good and impartial referee. Messrs Gascoigne and Aisher acted as line umpires. The visitors were entertained at the White Hart Hotel, and expressed themselves as very pleased with their day's outing.
