HORSESHOE DRAINAGE BOARD.

A meeting of the Board was held at Rongotea yesterday. Present — Messrs H. Hunt, chairman; J. Dalton, Hon. W. W. Johnston and W. J. Thompson. A letter was received from Mr Prior, stating that the legal expenses in the case with the Sluggish Creek Board were £137 19s and requesting cheque for £l4 5s 6d. Mr Barnicott had not yet informed him the amount of his costs. —Passed for payment. Mr John Sanson wrote asking that the drains which run through his place be cleaned out. The chairman said Mr Sanson and Mr Sexton were willing to do something towards clearing the Sand hill drain but the outlet was the difficuly. It wanted deepening and the-timber taken out. It was decided to ask Messrs Sanson and Sexton if they would undertake to clean out the drain, and the opinion was expressed that the Glen Oroua Dairy Co. should contribute to the cost. It was resolved that the tender of R. Carroll sen. for cleaning out the Willow, Artesian, Tompkins, Bush and Goebel at Is 6d per chain bo accepted. Mr Kirk Grey attended and asked that drain through his property be cleaned out. —Overseer was directed to inspect itand rpeort. '!■■ The chairman was authorised to arrange for cleaning Lean's drain. The treasurer reported that the Board had a credit balance of £156 10s lOd and there was £64 of rates still due.

The overseer reported- that a certain contractor had failed to take advantage of the dry weather when lie could have done certain parts of his work free from water, preferring to go to a sports meeting, and now he desired apparently to obtain payment all the same. The Board left the decision of the matter entirely to the overseer.
