PRESBYTERY OF WANGANUI.
The Presbytery met at Marton on Tuesday and transacted a good deal of business. Present: Revs. A. Morton ([(Moderator), Hutson, Gordon, Ryburn, Doull, Ross, Hall, Budd, and McCully, ministers: Messrs R. K. Simpson, J. Moßcth, J. O. Brediu, R. Tucker, A.Honore. J. H. Murray, and J; .Fraser, {elders. Messrs E. Bishtir) and G. H. Crockett, home mis-" is'onaries, were also present. i The minutes of last meeting were j read and sutainsed. I Apologies were received from Kev. J Jolly and Messsrs. A. G. Simpson, and T. C. Brash. ; I Mr Ryburn reported on Ins visit to the Main'Trunk Line, where Mr Lennox has begun his work at Ohakuue under considerable difficulties, but with good spirit and hope. „ On the motion of Mr Gordon, Mr Ryburn was appointed supervisor of the mission work of Mr Lennox .ou* the line. , Mr Ryburn also gave some account of the good work Mr D. McKeiizie has begun at Raetihi, in which ho is ably assisted by his accomplished On the motion of Mr McCully it was agreed that the Wanganui ministers and their representative elders take certain steps to help towards securing a church building at Raetihi. . , Gratifying reports were received concerning the Bulls congregation and tho Presbytery adopted the following resolution:—"The Presbytory rceeives with profound thankfulness to God the report of tho generous and practical spirit in which tho congregation of Bulls has shown its appreciation of tho worth and work of their late minister, and also heartily commends the congregation for its present spirit of hopefulness and determination to obtain a settled minister without delay.' 1 Mr Ross gave a gratifying report re the Taihape Manse, that 14,000 ft. of timber had been donated six mills, and that the tenders for tho erection of the building were to closo on tho 18th instant. The appointment of Mr E. Bishop to Taihape was confirmed. It was agreed that the Presbytery thank the sawmillersfor their gifts of timber, and a motion apprecia--tive of the unstinted labours of Mf Ross for the back blocks was also put on record. Mr Gordon reported that there was hope that Mangaweka would be settled with a minister at no distant date. , . It was reported that good work is still being done by Mr G. H. (Jrockett at Rewa.
The Eev. E. Walker has been appointed, to Halcoinbe, and is expected next week. A motion of regret and sympathy at the accidental death of Mr Cyril Roseveare, who had been student missionary at Pohangina, was adopted. The deputies appointed at last meeting reported on their visiitations to Hunteryille, Mangaweka and Taihape and the Presbytery adopted suitable deliverances in each case. Messrs R. Tucker and A. Thomson were appointed additional assessors of Fordell session.
Mr Doull handed in his resignation as Presbytery clerk, also of his position as Treasurer of Scholarship Fund and Loan Fund. Mr Doull'e resignation was.accepted and tho Presbytery put on record its appreciation of the faithfulness, diligence, exactness and conscientiousness with when Mr Doull had discharged his duties of Presbytery clerk for over
twenty years. Mr Gordon was appointed treasurer of the Presbytery funds aud the ap» pQiutineut of a clerk was left over till nest meeting. Mr Morton read cohiinunicatiohs from the Foreign Mission Committee, of which he is corresponding member. , On the| motion of Mr gudd the Presbytery appointed a committee to give effect to the recommendations of the" Assembly's Committee on the youth of the church. The Presbytery considered the Assembly's remit on the proposed amalgamation of the Beneficiary Funds of the church and made certain important recommendations, amongst others that there should lie an age fixed for the retirement of minsters from active service. At the request of the Session of the Palmerston congregation the Presbytery will hold its next meeting in Palmerston on 11th June when the evening will be devoted to a Homo Mission demonstration. Messrs Mor-' ton and McCully were appointed to make the necessary arrangements The Presbytery mot as Maori Mission Ccmmittee and transacted somo bnsines-s of importance. The teachers ard girls are still in Christchurch at the Exhibition and having a good time.-
