E. Beckett and A. Way were appointed to represent that Club at tho Conference of Clubs in tho Wanganui District, to be hold at Feilding on Thursday next. At the Taranaki Meeting on the first day Kuku was a warm favourite for tho Stewards’ Handicap, and getting away smartly led for a short distance, when he was headed by Silver Shell, but Kuku (nicely handled by C. Jenkins) came on at tho finish and won by a length. In tho Pukaka Hack Eaco Jenkins was successful on St. Maria, getting his mount away to the front, where ho stayed, winning by a length from Engraver, who was a nose in front of Golden Eagle. Tho Press agent at Taranaki wired that Pawa paid £4 8s for running second to Fretwork in the Kawaroa Hack Hurdles. Considering that there were only 46 investors on Fretwork (dividend £8 15s) and £240 10s on Pawa, someone must have blundered iu his calculations. In the Taranaki Cup, from an excellent start, Glenullin was the first to showput. Tho field raced in close order in the early stages, and passing tho post for the first time Glenullin had a slight load from Grenade and Claremont, who were running almost neck and neck. Travelling towards tho hack Grenade drew’ out a good bit, but at tho hack Claremont was iu front of him. At the bottom of tho course Truce came through, but could not got within three lengths of the winner. Grenade was a good distance behind Claremont, and Scotty finished last, close behind Paritutu (tho favourite). Murfitt rode the winner. In the Paul Memorial Stakes on the second day Paritutu came out and w’on this event. The stewards considered his running but decided not to take action. This decision must have been well received by J. George and his supxiorters, as it is a long day since the son of Castor was led in a winner. At the Dunedin Races on Saturday after tho first race tho racecourse detectives noticed a woman w r ho was standing near the judge’s box making two strokes in tho air with her umbrella. They watched and after the second race saw two strokes again, but quickly corrected to four. This was the race in which many thought that Fireiron (No. 2) had won, ■though No. 4 was the judge’s decision. Detective McLeod and Mr Kraotzor, tho club’s detectives, thereupon interposed and the woman owned that she was a tick-tacker signalling to someone on the hill, this second person signalling to a third party who sent tho nows to bookmakers in town. She was promptly put off' tho course.
