(Per Press Association.) CimisTcnyKCH, February 12. At the criminal sittings to-day John Sage was acquitted on a charge of forging orders given by customers for advertising. Accused had stood his trial tw ice before, when the jury disagreed each time. William Thomas Felton was also acquitted on the charge of manslaughter by negligently driving a motor-car along the Biccarton road on December sth. The car came into collision with a heavy cart and Geo. Tailored Do Montalk, one of the passengers in the car, was tilled. It was urged for the defence that the accused possessed ail the skill that could legality bo required of him, and ho had not been guilty of gross negligence. At the Supreme Court William Zimmerman was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for having had carnal knowledge of a girl under 10. Accused said the girl told him she was 19 years old. I! o was willing to marry her. His Honor said lie had carefully considered the case. It was his duty to enforce the Law and make it known by enforcing it. He had punished Maoris for the same offence and it was much more necessary to do so in the caso of Europeans. C. Eagnall for forgery and uttering was sentenced to two years imprisonment, and declared an habitual offender in the terms of the Act. An order was made that on the expiry of his sentence ho should bo kept in a. reformatory in accordance with the provisions of the Act. Win. Knight is being tried on a charge of breaking and entering at Biccarton. The chief evidence is a finger-print found on the premises entered.
