SOCIAL AT IE KAPUA.
On Friday, the 11th instant, a social -rts held in Te Kaput schoolroom in
’.our of Mr Ellis, who has successiu.ij carried the mail for tho past seven years. The residents of Te Kapua and Watershed Eoad presented Mr Ellis with a gold watch chain and several cheques for his kindness and attention while carrying the mail. They also presented Mrs Ellis with a silver mounted purse and Messrs Canton Bros, also presented Mr Ellis with a handsome pair of spurs. After the presentations, which were made by Mr Peed m a few well chosen words, the company all joined hands and sung “ Eor he’s a jolly good fellow.” Mr Ellis, in a neat little speech, thanked the residents for their presents and said he hoped the mail would be better carried by the present contractors than it had been done by him. Dancing; interspersed with songs, was kept lip till the wee small hours of the morning and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. As Mr Ellis will be 70 years of age next month (February) he does not intend to again carry the mail. Mr Ellis now propose* to take a well deserved holiday and with hi* wife will drive through to the Waikato to see Mr William Death and family, their old friends and neighbours.
