RANGIWAHIA SPORTS CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Rangiwahia Sports Club was held in. the hall on Saturday, 12th inst., There was a very large attendance of members, and the meeting was most enthusiastic throughout. MrF. Pemberton was in the chair, and the election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron", F. S. Goodbehere; president, W. S. Marshall; rice-presidents, F. Pemberton, G. S. Brown, J. W. Tompkins, C. 0. Miles, W. H. Brewster, J. J. Bryce, J. Rentoul, D. H. Guthrie, G. Kerr ; secretary, A. 'W. O’Dwyer; treasurer, F. J. Saywell; assistant secretary, E. R. Beckett. Judges: Running, J. Menzies, G. Perry, G. Ereger, P. H. Roadie ; horse events, J. C. Roles, A. A. Gower, W. Meyers; chopping, J. Menzies ; flowers, Mesdames Eng and Perry. Conductor of sports, F. Pemberton; starter, M. Bielski, jun.; handicapper, R. Craig. The programme was then discussed, and the feeling of the majority of those present was that the running events should be confined to local runners It was considered that Rangiwahia was too far from the line to attract many outside runners, unless by a large increase of prize money, and eventually the running events were confined to those who for three months prior to the date of entry have resided within a radius of 18 miles from Rangiwahia Post Office. The events open to allcomers are the Hunters’ Competition (first prize £10), Tilting at the Ring, and a handicap chop, value £9. These liberal prizes should attract large fields. Two other events that should be popular feature are a relay race of half a mile for boys attending the Mangarimu, Hinau, Ohingaiti, Mangaweka, Ruahine, Karewafewa, Apiti, Rangiwahia, and Kimbolton schools, and an adults’ relay race of a mile, to consist of teams of four representing above-named places. A strong working committee was elected, and they meet on Saturday nest to revise the programme and for other important business. By the enthusiasm shown I have no doubt that our 1907 meeting will equal, if it does not eclipse, any previous meetings.
