INDECENT LANGUAGE.
Heavy Fines. Press Association. Invercargill, January 9. Magistrate McCarthy fined Israel Moore to-day £2O and required him to enter into his own recognisances of £SO and to provide two sureties of £25 each for having used indecent language in a railway car on Boxing Day. Evidence showed that the langaage was used in the presence of ladies. Patrick Hughes, with previous convictions, was aned £ls for indecent language on Invercargill street. In both cases drunkenness was advanced as the excuse for misconduct and Hughes had also to find two sureties of £25 each to keep the peace for twelve months. The Magistrate directed the attention of the police to the sworn evidence of Moore that he was supplied with drink by Eiverton publicans whilst under the influence of liquor, with a view to prosecution of the publicans.
