(Per Press Association.) Eeefton, January 9. Jeremiah Grant, a young man, was killed by a fail of stone in tbe Keep-It-Dark Mine. Deceased was a native of New South Wales. Dunedin, January 9. A miner named John Bird was found lying across His bed by a boardinghouse-keeper this afternoon shot through the heart. The position and circumstances point to suicide. William Brownie, aged 20 years, died at, the hospital this morning under circumstances which necessi. tated an inquest. He was admitted on Monday. It appears he had a quarrel with his father at North East Valley, last week, as ati outcome of which the police had instituted proceedings against both for a breach of the peace. The body of David Dally, who was drowned in tiie Wairaakariri yesterday, was found to-day. An inquest was held this afternoon, when a verdict of accidental drowning was returned. Invercargill, January 9. At the adjourned inquest on John Hornsby, killed by a train at Woodlands on 31st December, it was found that ho was muddled with drink, and no blame was attachable to the railway authorities. The evidence showed that the man continued on the lino though ho saw the train approaching,, and was warned by persons near to look out. The engine-driver regarded it as a case of deliberate suicide.
