PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD.

LAST NIGHT’S MEETING. The Papakura Town Board met last evening when there were present:— Messrs. S. Evans (chairman),, E. D. McLennan, D. W. Jones, T. D. Camnhell, Jos. Rea, R. Montgomery, J. Reams, and the clerk (Mr. A. L. Cooper. Loans Remitted. The State Advances Office intimated that 516000 of the water supplyloan and 51900 of the road works loan had been remitted to the post office, to he placed to the credit of the Hoard at the bank.—Received. Kerikeri Quarry. The Franklin County Council advised that permission was granted the Board to take stone from the Council’s quarry at Ken Keri, free of loyalty, subject to the quarry being worked to the Council’s satisfaction and also that the Council be supplied with metal for local requirements at the actual cost to the Board. —Received. Town Hail Site. In connection wth Mr Percy Holt’s offer of a site for a town hall - and library, in exchange for the present Board office and library site. Mi - . . E. D. McLennan moved that Mr. Holt's offer be accepted. Mr. T. I). Campbell seconded and the motion ! was carried by acclamation Mr. J. I Rea voted against the proposal on [ account of the conditions attached to . the gift. Mr. Rea contended that bc- , fore the matter reached finality it should have been placed before the ratepayers.

Continuation of Path Required. Mr. Geo. Vince and thirteen other ratepayers requested the Board to continue the footpath along Wairoa Road to the Board’s boundary.—On the motion of Mr. Jones, it was decided to reply stating the Board would accede to the request as soon as other urgent works in the district were completed. Building Permit. A permit to build a garage, estimated to cost about £75, was granted Mr. Cyril Jepbson. market Reserve.

The tender of Mr. R. H. Clarlke at to for the lease of the market reserve was accepted. Fallen Soldiers' Memorial. On behalf of the Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Committee, Mr. D. W. Jones applied for permission to use the railway reserve on March sth for the purpose of holding a garden fete and with the right to charge for admission. The request was granted. Mr. Jones gave notice to move at next meeting that the Board grant SSO towards the erection of a memorial to perpetuate the memory of l-apakura and district soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War. Uncleancd Creeks. It was decided to compel property owners to clean out their portions of Croskery’s and Cole’s creeks as early as possible. Water Supply. Work in connection with the construction of the head works for the Papakura water supply have been commenced and the Board will inspect the site of the dam on February sth in company with the engineer. It was decided to acquire a conservation area,, and the clerk was instructed to write property owners asking for* a price to be put on the required land.
