PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD.
LAST NIGHT'S MEETING.
The ordinary meeting of the Papa kura Town Board was held last evening, when there were present: Messrs S. Evans (chairman), h. D. McLennan, D. W. Jones, T. D Campbell. R. Montgomery, and the clerk (Mr A. L. Cooper). An apology for absence was received from Mr. J. Rea.
The Papakura Masonic Lodge drew the board's attention to the state of tht footpath leading from Milne's Motor Garage to the Masonic Hall, with a request that it be repaired.— On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. Jones, it was decided to accede to the request. The Public Trust Office intimated that owing to the heavy financial commitments of the office, it regretted that the Papakura Town Board's application for a loan of £BOOO could not at present be entertained, but suggested application be made after April 1, 1921.—Received. f
An application for a permit - to cut cccksfoot grass on roads in the Town Beard's area was received from 'Mr. L. Kernot.—On the motion of Mr. Jones the request was acceded 10. A petition signed by Mr. E. C. Lyon and 14 other ratepayers resident on Young's Beach Road, drew the board's attention to the bad state of the road, and requested it be put in order—Referred to Works Committee to report on at next meeting.
Dr. A. W. P. Brookfield wrote offering 14 acres of Kirk's bush as a scenic reserve.—Members contended the bush would be a great acquisition to the district, but owing to the present financial position it regretted it could do nothing in the matter. It was decided to reply to this effect. The Piako County Council forwarded u circular letter protesting against the closing of Te Waikato Sanatorium, and solicited the boards cooperation in the matter.—On the motion of Messrs. McLennan and Jones it was decided to* support the council in its endeavours.
Accounts amounting to £BBI 5s 5d were submitted, approved of, and passed for payment. This amount includes the cost of the crushing plant, £550, and legal expenses amounting to £52 lX)s 4d in connexion with the rpising of the loans, etc. On the motion of Mr. Jones it was decided to apply to the Post and Telegraph Department for the delivery of letters over the whole of the Town Board area.
A sub-committee consisting of Messrs. Jones, E. D. McLennan, and S Evans was set up to consider the lighting of the district next winter, and to report at a future meeting of the board. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, December 23.
The tenders of Messrs. Blank and Devis, Papakura, were accepted for the following works:—Marne Road formation, £450; Settlement Road formation, £260.
