SISTER ESTHER'S CHRISTMAS FUND.
Sir,—Once again we ask assistance for our Christmas Cheer Fund. We | also wish to express our sincere gratitude to our country friends for their practical sympathy in our work. We have the care of many fine old folk, who have only their old age pension on which to depend. Their needs are so great that we feel constrained to make a special appeal on their behalf. The increase of room rent, the cost of butter, sugar and firing, the still high cost of tea is making it difficult for them to obtain sufficient food to keep body and soul together. There is the widow with Her little children to support; the home where the husband is permanently sick, unable to provide for his family; the deserted wives, who are" left to face the battle of life alone. These are the people who need our help. All are grateful for Christmas cheer in the way of food or toys. We have prepared our lists, leaving off any whom we think might manage without our assistance. There still remains 260 homes, containing in all 1012 women and children, in need of help for Christmas. On their behalf we ask for that kindly aid which has enabled us to do so much in the past. Every contribution will mean added comfort and joy for some needy soul in this city. Our address is 11, Picton Street, Ponsonby. SISTER ESTHER.
