LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

THE WAR MEMORIAL. Sir, I was pleased to see by the last reply from the Mayor in the correspondence about the war memorial that he has r.ow adopted a more gentlemanly way of expressing h<s sentiments, but 1 have not seen a satisfactory answer as to why the Mayor called a meeting of the public to decide as to the form the memorial should take; after inviting and receiving tl e ratepayers' vote on the question, and their decision was I in favour of the swimming baths. Of course it was understood at the time the vote was being taken that a suitable inscription would be placed at the entrance to the baths. R.F.W.
