ENTERTAINMENTS.
LYCEUM PIOTURES. SATURDAY. "The Love Defender," with June Elvidge, Madge Evans and Frank Mayo in the cast, forms the feature for to-morrow night's screening. Highly dramatic the new World Film production tells the story of a young wife who had fought and struggled and prayed to keep her husband's love, but without success. There seemed only one thing left for her to do. But she didn't commit suicide. At the last minute her husband came back to her—came in a surprising manner, and because of a sudden awakening. June Elvidge has a great part to play in the role of Hope Meredith, the young wife. Madge Evans, the charming little star, and other popular film players, appear in the cast. An unusual story, unusually well done, will be supported by good supporting films.
MONDAY. The screening of the historic film, "The Signing of the Peace Treaty," takes place on Monday evening next. Never before in the history of the world has such a combination of famous statesmen and diplomats ever been assembled under the one roof as those that gathered in the Hali of Mirrors on June 28 last, and we hope that never again will such a gathering be necessary. The film itself is commensurate with the importance of the incidents that it records. Nothing has been neglected, every detail of the impressive historic ceremony and the French commemorative celebrations has been faithfully preserv. ed. 'The Signing of the Peace Treaty" is one of the unusual* piclures "of the year. Parents will do well to send all the children. A good supporting programme will also be shown. Usual prices only. HOCKEY GRAND BALL.
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 26. A hockey grand ball under the auspices of the Pukekohe (ladies' and gents') Hockey Club will be held in the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, on Tuesdav, October 26. This, no doubt, will be' the final ball of the season, and it behoves dancing enthusiasts to attend in large numbers and make the function a brilliant success. An energetic ball committee has been formed, and no effort will be spared to make the event a success. Tickets can be procured from members of the hockey club at a reasonable price. See advertisement for further particulars.
