KING'S COLLEGE OLD BOYS.
BALL AT PAPAKURA. A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. A most successful ball, promoted by the King's College, old boys of Papakura and the surrounding districts, was held in the Papakura Hall on Wednesday evening. An energetic committee had for some time been engaged in making arrangements for the ball, and the result was a great credit to them.
In a short speech Mr. E. W. Piatt, secretary, explained that the ball had been organised with a view to augmenting the funds being raised by the Old Boys' Association for the purpose of erecting a chapel for the new college. It was hoped that this would only be the first of a yearly function, and that succeeding events would be even more successful
During the day the hall had been simply but very tastefully decorated, and presented a most inviting appearance. The college colours, maroon and gold, took a prominent part in the decorations, while the college banner was displayed on the stage. The floor was exceptionally good, and this with the excellent music provided by Walker's orchestra, made dancing for the hundred and fifty couples present a great pleasure. The greatest credit is due to the ladies' committee for the dainty supper which they provided. The supper tables presented a real picture, being artistically decorated with (lowers and maroon and gold streamers. The fare was all that could be desired, the trifles, jellies, fruit salads, etc. being enough to tempt even the most languishing appetite. The committee responsible for the function consisted of Wessrs. K, W. Piatt, I. E. Piatt. A. Batty, W. Batty. T. Shepherd, L Browne, R. Melsop, (', Finl.iyson, G. Hoist. F. Yates, and J. Bradstreet.
