BILLIARDS.
TUAKAU DEFEATS PUKEKOHE. The return billiard match between Kennelly and Daysh's room, PukcKohe, and Tuakau was played at Tuakau on Thursday evening last. Al though the evening was very wet, tht Pukekohe players turned up to >. man, and had several visitors wiL them. Six players from each down took part, and some very good pla> was witnessed. The following is tht result, Pukekohe names mentionec. first:—C. K. Lawrie, 136, lost to J. Relf, 200; G. T. Witt, 200 beat A. White, 135; J. Coady, 200, beat L. Hardcastle, 133; B. Clarke, 120, lost to P. M. Keppel, 200; S. Clews, 200, beat E. McGahan, 186; N. Waterman, 152, lost to McMandern, 200. Total. Pukekohe, 1008; Tuakau, 1053. At the conclusion of the match refreshments were handed round, ana before the visitors left Mr. C. K. Lawrie, in a few well-chosen words, thanked the Tuakau boys for their homely treatment, and expressea much satisfaction at the manner in which the match had been played. On behalf of the Pukekohe players he extended a cordial welcome to Tuakau to again visit Pukekohe now to decide the position, as each town so far had won a match each. It finally decided that the Tuakau players would visit Pukekohe on Thursday evening next. PUKEKOHE DEFEATS WAIUKU.
The return billiards and snooker match between the Waiuku club and Armstrong's billiard saloon eventuated in the latter rooms last evening in the presence of a large attendance of spectators. The previous meeting of the teams at Waiuku resulted in favour of Waiuku 'by 58 points, and with this margin on the last meeting it was anticipated that Waiuku would again prove victorious. The visitors commenced well, and at one stage a victory for them was proclaimed, but in the concluding games the home team more than held its own and eventually won on the aggregate" by 66 points. In the four billiard matches Waiuku won two and Pukekohe a similar number, but on points Waiuku won by 104. Pukekohe won three out of four snooker contests, and in this department triumphed by 170 points. The names of players and scores were as follows, Pukekohe being mentioned first in each case:—Billiards: W. Butler, 200, beat E. Christiansen, 180; Jas. Blake, 136, lost to W. E. Barrib&ll, 200; F. H. Hewitt, 200, beat W. G. Pleydell, 190; L. McDermott, 130, lost to H. M. Barriball, 200. Total: Pukekohe, 666; Waiuku, 770. Waiuku won by 104 points. Snooker: L. Short, 100, beat E. L. Williams, 68; W. Short. 123, beat G. V. Williams, 40; T. Maxwell, 114, beat W. Clarke, 57; C. Weston, 77. lost to S. R. Mason, 79. Total: Pukekohe, 414; Waiuku, 244. Pukekohe won by 170 points. Aggregate: Pukekohe,. 1080 points; Waiuku, 1014. Pukekohe thus won by 66 points. Af*W the mat:h the visitors were entertained at supper at the Carnival Tearooms, and a most pleasnnt time was spent. Mr. G. H. Armstrong, en behalf of the local team, thanked Waiuku for journeying to Pukekohe, and#ftiso. congratulated theui on the victory achieved a,t Waiuku, and returned thanks for the manner in which the Waiuku club had entertained the Pukekohe team when the latter travelled to Waiuku. The result of the return match had been a most agreeable surprise to him after he had heard the result of the previous match. He hoped that similar matches could be arranged for next winter.
Mr. S. R. Mason, on behalf of Waiuku, returned thanks for the manner in which the visitors had been treated at the hands of the home team. He also congratulated Pukekohe on its victory, and like Mr. Armstrong, trusted the teams would meet again on some future occasion.
Several musical and vocal items and recitations were rendered, and a most pleasant evening terminated with cheers for both teams.
