FIRST RACE MEETING. JANUARY 22 APPLIED FOR. A committee meeting of the Franklin Racing Club was held last night, Mr. F. Brown occupying the chair in the absence of the president, Mr. W. Claud Motion. The important matter of the date of the first race meeting was discussed. wise to hold a meeting until the

course was in good order, and laid down in new grass; this could not be done before about the end of March. Furthermore, if the course was well laid trainers would be induced to use it. If grass were sown now or at the end of this month and rolled occasionally it would be in good order by the end of March.
