FOOTBALL

SATURDAY'S MATCHf.S What promises to be the match of the season as far as Franklin Rugby is concerned will eventuate on Saturday on the Domain, when the unbeaten Pukekohe .juniors will meet

Bombay juniors. At the present time Pukekohe is leading by one point for the champion honours, and as the premiership depends on the result of the match a great game is anticipated. Unfortunately some of the Pukekohe boys are suffering from the effects of severe colds, and may not be at their best on the day. Those who have seen the boys in] action speak in glowing terms of their ability to play brilliant and clean football. They are a very light combination, and the heavy Bombay team may squeeze home on a wet day. Given fine weather and a dry ball a very fast game should eventuate. Whatever team wins it will not have a walk-over. Mr. Bert Clarke will referee the match.

We understand that Bombay will play under protest against a Franklin referee, claiming that they should have an outside referee in the interests of their . supporters. The club applied to the Franklin Referees* Association for an Auckland referee, but the association would not accede to the request. For the benefit of the Bombay club and its supporters we may state that the Pukekohe club Las ii"'.)v >•.; to do with the ; ppoi.itmei'.t ot referees and also that the matter rests with the Franklin Referees' Associa tion. It seems a pity that one junior team should want an outside referee, when the senior teams in the competition play under Franklin referees. The Bombay senior team does not require an Auckland referee for Saturday's match against Pukekohe seniors.

Pukekohe juniors will be represented by: Nicholson, Adams (2), Hart (2), Lysnar, Tonkin, Brown, Stuart, Stewart, Dazeley, Perkins, Fulton, Jones, Middlemiss, Cronin, Fisher and Blake. Pukekohe Seniors. The following will represent Pukekohe against Bombay seniors at Bombay: Marshall, Higginson, Fletcher, Crum, Blake, Short, Wilson (2), Lucas (2), Sutton, Syme, Leighton, Burgess, Flavell, Bilkey and Adams. In the event of the Domain being under water to-morrow the junior match between. Pukekohe and Bombay will take place on the showgrounds.

REFEREES FOR TO-MORROW. Senior. Clevedon v. Waiuku at Clevedon.--Mr. J. E. Elliott. Bombay v. Pukekohe at Bombay.— Mr. T. J. Corin. Tuakau v. Onewhero at Tuakau.— Mr. Lonergan. Junior. Pukekohe v. Bombay at Pukekohe.— Mr. Bert Clarke. Onewhero v. Tuakau at Onewhero. Mr. W. J. Taylor.

PUKEKOHE V. TUAKAU. A BENEFIT MATCH. The Pukekohe club will send a team to Tuakau'on August 21 to play the Tuakau dub, as a benefit to Mr. Paul Turner, a Tuakau player who fractured a leg while playing against Waiuku. A pood friendly game should eventuate.
