A unique event took place at Wanganui recently, when a motor-car successfully negotiated the steps in front of Sarjeant Art Gallery. The car was first driven up the first series of steps, fronting the monument, which it encircled, and then came down at the opposite side. Spurred by this success, the car was then driven up the much more difficult steps on the other side. Owing to I the short wheelbase the car successfully climbed the curved portion with ease, and the new springing system was tested severely with great success. After the first landing was reached it was necessary for the car to be turned to lace the next series of steps, and tl.io was done after once basking. Going at the succeeding three (lights like the proverbial bull, the car literally flew over the bumps and faced the Art Gallery.
