What comes from the heart goes I to the heart. The farce staged by the Labour i factien in' the House of Represent a- j tives the other day (says the Dominion) was a poor thing of its kind. The war.t-of-confldenee motion was not taken seriously even by its ostensible «upporters. At a time when the country has so much need of earnest and unremitting service from its legislators this class of clumsy political clowning is particularly uncdifying, and the only redeeming feature of the affair is "the celerity with which it was brought to a close. While some Liberals voted for the motion, the Leader of the Opposition j had several members of his party re- j fused, to their credit, to follow at j Labour's heels in such a sorry par- j ude. What is to happen when Mr. i Macdonald in his turn divides Iho ; House on u want-of-confidence 'no- i tion remains to be seen. As mat- j ters stand one section of the Liberal j Party is hobnobbing with extreme j Labour, while another stands aloof. 1 It is a state of affairs that will bear elucidation. Tuesday's incident in j any case makes it clearer than ever i that, the one essential line to be j drawn is between those who want to j work, and those who are prepared | in venting their party feeling to turn j the proceedings of Parliament into | a cheap burlesque. The meinbe- for j Wanganui was one of the sixteen . who voted tor the Holland motion. '
