THEFT AT PAPAKURA
ONE POUND NOTE STOLEN.
A young man named Richard Malan, aged 19 years, blew into Papakura yesterday from Auckland, and hist night accepted the hospitality of a railway employee, Mr. Colin Watson, to stay with him during the night. During the absence of Mr. Watson, Malan lifted a £1 note from off Mr. Watson's table. Upon returning home, Mr. Watson missed the note, and the Pukekohe police were communicated with, and Constable Miller, who is in charge of the Papakura station, set off to locate the thief. He did not have a difficult task, as about 8.30 p.m. he arrested Malan, who admitted the offence. When arrested Malan had lis lOd in his possession, having purchased with the balance of the £1 note cigarettes, lollies, and a bottle of cough laixtuic. He was subsequently brought to Pukekohe, and spent the night in the "cooler." This morning he appeared before Mr. (.'. K. Lawrie, J.P., and at the request of Sergeant Cowan was request of Sergeant Cowan, was remanded to appear at the Magistrate's Court, Auckland, on Thursday, July S. at 10.30 a.m.
