SKATING CARNIVAL

A BRILLIANT SUCCESS.

There was an exceptionally large attendance at the Premier Hall on Tuesday evening of last week, the attraction being a monster skating carnival held under the auspices of the proprietor of the local skating rink, Mr. John J. Coady. The management had elaborate arrangements complete, and everything went off without the slightest hitch. From all points of view the carnival, the first of its kind in Pukekohe, for many years at least, was an unqualified success. Besides the large number of spectators, there was a large representation of skaters, ami the form exhibited by a number rf the contestants for the valgus events revealed the fact that Pukekohe contains some promising skaters. A number of the learners' brigade have made rapid progress with the r *.t, and in a short time will ligare among the first rmk of skjters in ihe Dominion. ._ . .

There was a large representation of fancy dresses, contrary to'expectations, and these presented a brilliant spectacle, as the forms donning the dresses glided around the hall.

The Prize Winners. The prize winners were:— Most Graceful Cou^e.—Miss Nfelsie Hawke smd Mr. E.^^e. Best Fancy Dress (lady).—Mrs. E. A. (Spanish Dancer). Most Original Dress (lady). "Result of being an enthusiastic skater." - Pearl ie Dix. Most Original Dress (gent's).—Mr. Monty Brown (Tramp). Best-dressed Gent.—Mr. C. E. Wright (Chinaman). Best Poster Dress (lady).—Miss Joan Dawe (Nyal's Family Remedies). Rest Poster Dress (fpnt).—Mr. D. N. Macown (Sweets). Special prizes were awarded to Miss Ada Jenkins, representing the "Franklin and Ptriltekohe Times," and Miss Lily Laundy, representing Lyceum Pictures. Tho judges also recommended thai special prizes should be given to fictle Misses Joyce Motion Cherry Campbell-Smith for their oriuial representation of an Australian eucalyptus leaf and blossom. Couple's Race.—Master Win. Whfteh,\v and Miss Nellie Weston. Potato Race. -Ed. Clarke. Esg and Spoon Race (gent?).— Pert Clark. Quarter-mile Hurdle Race.— W. McDivitt. Bun-eating Competition. - Jim O'Connor. Ladies' Egg and Spoon Race Thelma Boyce. Musical Chairs (gents),-W. McDevitt. Musical Chairs (ladies).-Tnelnia Boyce. The judges of the costumes at the tarniv .1 were Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Thomas, and Miss Simms.
