THE LATE HENARE KAIHAU
INTERMENT AT WAIUKU.
The remains of the late Mr. Henaie Kaihau were interred on Wednesday afternoon in. the family vault at Tahuna Kaitoto, Waiuku. Therte was a large gathering of Maoris, the following tribes being represented:•Maniapoto, Waika»;o, Tainui, and Mahanga. Amongst those present from the'Waikato was Marae Mahuta. mother of Kins Rata; also her daugh ter, H.incess Puea, three brot!.eis ol the present Maori King, and hi.uncle, Haunui Tawhiou. The casket containing the body of deceased was j a very handsome one, and it was covered with several handsome runts brought by the Waikatos. There were 22 bearers, the casket being cairied on poles. It may be mentioned that the interment had been delayed '>n> day in order to allow the visitors t< arrive from !the Waikato. The reception of the guests was an impressive one, the old Maori customs of the tangi being followed in that instance. A number of European residents were present.
