BEACH ROAD
\ CHAPTER OF ACCIDENTS. COMPLAINTS TO COUNCIL. Mr. Cyril Jephson, of Papakura , wr ote as follows in a letter received by the Franklin County Council yesterday:- .. . . , , "I am desirous of fringing befon your notice that 1 met with a bad accident about half-way along th< Beach Road (Drury. Riding) on Sat in-day afternoon. March 20, in which mv trap, harness and two children received injury. The council has beer repeatedly warned of the dangerou.condition of this road by petitions from ratepayers, and has also received heavy rates from the propertv owners along this road, who hire practically received no repairs, or other work upon this road for several years past. This accident is clearly caused by the council's iniitMention to their functions as a l< c d "body to keen this road safe lor traf (•„..' ! therefore intend to put in a claim for the damage and expense to which I have been put. Cui'l, illors contended that ihe ..,,.„! WJ a really good one, and that accidents were likely to occur on any road. Cr. Thomas said he and the engineer had inspected the road ab>ut three months ago, and had told the settlers that they would send the teams to attend to the side road. The teams had not yet finished at Drury.
