McArthur, reported ■; on works done during ihe Government Grants, During the month proposals have been approved and authorities hive been received for the expenditure of the following subsidies, viz:— Helvetia Station Road, £1 for 11, £l5O. Patumahoe to Waiuku-Drury Road, Via Woodhouse Hill, £1 for £l, £250. Drury to Waiuku, via Karaka, £1 for £1 £2(520. Bombay to Papa rat a, £1 for £l, i £SO. j Mission Bush Road, on account of '£looo, £1 for £l, rJ.io, £1 for £l. Pukekohe Borough Boundary to .Waiuku-Drury Road, via Paerata, £ for £i; £750. Helvetia to Paerata, £1 for 81, £162 Patumahoe to Waiau, on account of £2OOO, £1 for £l, £1415. Maioro Top Road, £1 for 81, £212. Proposals for the following grantj rand subsidies have been forwardm to the Public Works Department Ar approval:— f \ Belooe Road, £IOO, £1 for £l. Whangarata to Waikato River, £75, £1 for 81. Hunua to Clevedon, £3OO, free. Otaua Road, Moumoukai Valley, £IOO, free. The No. 1 County teams plant is ( at present engaged foiming a por- ( tion of the Waiuku-Drury Road, and will be employed at this work for < some time. ( The No. 2 County teams plant has ( completed the access rcuwfe on the eastern side to the central stitron at . Drury and is proceeding to Bombav . to form side roads previously in;- ' thoiised. * Other county teams and hired teams in the different ridings are at j piysent busily engaged re-forming v roads, etc. . v Crushing and Hauling "flan Is.
The No. 1 crushing |»l«nt is Ht , present crushing metal- f6r the Patu-mahoe-Waiau Road. 'Phis'-tffcrk is progressing now fairly well. One and three-quarter miles of road have now been metalled. The remaining portion of road, about th;.ee : quarters of a mile, will be short carting, and will be done more quickly. The crushing plant should be available this season to crush the stone for Pjatt's Hill deviation. The No fi 2 hauling j>lant\is still engaged conveying ciwek gravel' at Mangatangi. Good progress has been made during the past month. The work will shortly be completed. It is proposed to use this plant whef. finished at Mangatangi for hauling willows from the Maungatawhiii Stream and also for scarifying the, Pokeno Valley Road near Pokeno. i Flint and Machinery An order has now been placed for a ney Hadfield crusher, the price being £SOO. ■ One Austin grader only has come Xo hand, two being previously, ordered. No information is available as to when the second one will arrive. McKenzie's Road, Hunuji.— Before the road can be improved it is necessary that wilJttf*. etc. be cleared out of* creek side, and also that be removed from the nbrtuWPTOe of road. Altei' this has be«n done a small amount of work would unite.the road passable. 1 would suggest that notices be given to the property ovners to clear the creek of willows and other obstructions, and noxious weeds from the road. Hill's Road, Maungatawhiii.—Applications have been nrcviously made by Messrs Hill, Anderson and others i for an access road to sections 22SA, 229, 230, e"jc, Maungatawhiri. Inspection was made during the month by Cr. Keith and myself, and it was found that before deciding on the work necessary to give access, the line of road will i!equ*re to be defined, The necessary information re quired is being procured from the su«vey Office at Auckland, and when available the road will be defined and an engineering survey and estimate of the cost of construction made.
