PROPOSED TOWN HALL
QUESTION OF SITE. The rather debatable subject of a site for the proposed Town Hall and municipal buildings was discussed by the Pukekohe Borough Council at a special meeting held on Wednesday night. It was suggested that a public meeting should be held to decide the site.
Cr. Bilkey said all the sections sold adjacent to the present site, by Mr. Kenelley, were sold on the understanding that a hall would be built. The Mayor (Mr. C. K. Lawrie) thought the site should be on the present council chambers' site.
Cr. Morrow said additional land| could be acquired alongside Kennelly's site. Cr. Bilkey considered that the town was moving towards Upper King Street. Cr. A. P. Daysh: No. In spite of all the "pulling" you have been doing for the past forty years,- the town is moving towards the railway station. (Laughter.) Cr. G. Armstrong said the matter of the site should be settled on business lines, and therefore centralisation should be kept in view. We would never get land in Pukekohe cheaper than it could be bought at the present time. Roulston's corner, opposite the bowling green, would be the best site. The council could finance the matter out of their present property. The site he mentioned would be central for all time.
The Mayor, and Crs. J. Patterson, and Armstrong were appointed us a committee to interview owners of various properies, and report at next meeting.
