RANGIRIRI.
LEAP YEAR SOCIAL. A most successful social was held in the Maurea Hall, Rangiriri, on Friday, January 30, and, being organised by the ladies as a Leap Year function, was, of course, given in a complimentary manner (free of charge) to the gentlemen.
Over 80 couples were present, and the proceedings went off in a most complete and delightful manner, the social being generally considered the best held in the vicinity for some time past. The arrangements were most ably carried out by a ladies' committee, Miss D. M. Gerrand acting as honorary secretary. The decorations were of a most elaborate and artistic nature. The ladies did justice to their programme until midnight.
A pleasing feature of the eveningwas a waltzing competition, won by Mr. J. Mount and Miss Patterson.
Songs were rendered by Mesdames Potter and Clark, Miss Macintosh, Messrs. Haycock and Patterson. Dancing was kept up till the early hours of the morning.
