PAPATOETOE.
TOWN BOARD MEETING The ordinary meeting of the above was held on the 18th November. Present: Mr J. Watson (chairman), J. Bryant, F. Mulcock, A. Hall, A. U. Timewell, J. Death, 8. McCullough, H. C. Ernest, secretary. Be sanitary service,—The secretary had written the contractor fur Papakura, but had received no reply. The foreman (Mr Ward) reported a great improvement in the working of the quarry since the installation of the truck and rails. He also asked for an extra man, which, it granted, would mean a great saving to the Board, and the work being done more expeditiously. Mr Death moved that a man be engaged immediately, seconded by Mr Timewell.—Carried.
Mr J. Bryant moved that the agent for the new road grader be asked to come and give a trial of the same, next Saturday morning at 10 o'clock.—Carried. A letter was received from the Manukau County clerk, re formation of good roads in the district, notify* ing the Town Board that a meeting of local bodies would be held in tne Chamber of Commerce, to which a member or members of the Board were asked to be present. The chairman was appointed delegate. A letter was aIBO received from Manukau County Council, re carrying out of the agreement in respect to the payment of rates, and the secretary reported that the agreement was so marked with queries and alterations that he had forwarded the document to the Board's solicitors for scrutiny. Mr Waters, who represented the district on the Manukau Council, was present, -nd suggested that the chairman (Mr Watson), Mr Bryant, himself and the clerk, with their solicitors, meet and go into the whole matter.—Carried, It was reported to the meeting that Mr McCullough was averse to signing the deed for the purchase of the quarry on his property, till he received written consent from the County Council. Decided to approach the Council as requested. Mr Waters stated that he had reported to his Council that he had attended the Town Board meeting re control of the Town Hall at Papatoetoe. and it was decided to ask the Board to forward the names of the memberaof the Town Hall committee for confirmation. The chairman moved that they forward the names as requested.—Carried. Accounts were passed for payment, amounting ta £2l 17s fid. CONCERT. A concert in aid of the school funds was given in the Town Hall, Papatoetoe, Monday, November 24, by members of the Auckland Y.M.C.A. There was a large attendance, and a {rood programme of instrumental and vocal music wa6 gone through- The instrumental quartette gave several selections, which were very creditably rendered Violin solos by Mr Whitely McElwain and Mr Leslie Bycroft, and a piccolo solo by Mr W. Crawford receivsd a well-merited encore, as did a clarionet solo bv Mr Clive Bree. Songs were rendered by Mr C. Norries (.tenor) and Mr CBooth (alto).
