BUCKLAND.
It reminds one of pre war days to see the crowd of young people that take advantage of the lengthening days and fine weather on the tennis courts. The tennis club seems to be more energetic than ever after its few years' spell. Dances have been given to help the funds and a new net has been bought and both courts retarred and sanded. Moonlight picnics and a five hundred evening are being arranged by the energetic members and already the probability of our club visiting the surrounding clubs is under discussion.
The long promised Peaoe Sports are at last a thing of the past, the committee evidently having a very intimate knowledge of that good old proverb "Better late than never" We still see many of the children who won prizes delightedly showing them to their envious playmates After the sports the young people of the district arranged a dance in the hall. Nowadys, rumour has it, even dances such as the maxina, fox trot, and one step are included in the programme Oh Buckland! In it any wonder that a candidate for the forth coming elections deemed it necessary to call upon the protection of the police during a recent meeting here.
We are still waiting to hear the result of the Flower Show. A committee meeting was held on Thursday but until the , treasurer, who is absent from the district, returns, the books can not be fully made up We sincerely hope that his money belt is a safe one
The proficiency examinations are over and the Standard 6 children are once again a light hearted crowd and, as usual, the Buckland School came out with honours flying—one gaining competency and tha rest proficiency certificates.
