BOMBAY.

VALEDICTORY A farewell concert acd dance was held in the Bombay Hall on the 17th inst. to bid farewell to the following, who are moving on to fresh fields: Mr and Mrs H. Sawyer, Mr and Mrs H. Carter, Mr and Mrs Barker, Mr S. Allison and Mr and Mrs Waxnock. An excellent programme was provided by the Misses Booth (Paparata) and Messrs Wright. Jones, Gribble, Wilson, Oldham and Watson (Pukekohe). Mr W. Barker presided at the piano and Mr W. H. Thomas occupied the chair, wishing the departing ones all that was good in their new homes. After the guests had responded suppei was served, and the hall cleared for dancing.

WAR MEMORIAL On Friday the 19th inst a very successful concert and dance arranged by the stallholders at the forthcoming War Memorial Bazaar was held in aid of the bazaar fund. There was a good attendance presided over by Mr J. A. Lowry and the following items thoroughly enjoyed: Songs by Mrs H. Wootten, Miss Oauntlett, Miss Barker, Mr Pople, Mr Laing, Mr Ingram, Masters Hugh Laing and A. Best; duet, Mr and Miss Barker; recitations, Miss M Wootten, Master Roy Common and Mr Pople. After supper the devotees of the light fantastic enjoyed a good floor and music to the full.

At a recent meeting the Bombay and Faparata War Memorial was farther discussed. Mr Thomas presided and Mr Alan P. Day (clerk of the Franklin County Council) was present to explain by what means the County Council could assist. Mr Day explained the power vested fa local bodies in regard to raising loans, etc., over special rating areas. In reply to a question as to what he would advise, Mr Day said: " Buy and pay for and manage the thing for yourselves." This advice seemed to be acceptable to the meeting, as no action was taken in regard to the County Council. It was decided, however, to apply to t the Government for a subsidy. The syndicate which purchased the property of which the Memorial recreation ground is a part have sold the balance of property at a profit of £l7.i, which amount they are donating to the War Memorial.
