PUKEKOHE EAST.

VALEDICTORY. On the evening of Tuesday a send off social to Mr and Mrs A. White, who have sold their farm ai d are leaving the district, was held in the local hall. Consideriug the very boisterous state of the weather there was a large gatheiing, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. Messrs C. Lauer and W. Reynolds carried out the duties of M's.C. in their usual efficient manner. On behalf of the residents of the district Mr J. Toooian, in a few well chosen words, presented the depart ing guests with a set of carvers Mr White suitably replied.

FARMERS' UNION

At the last meeting of the district branch of the Farmers' Union, mnn bers present voiced a good deal of criticism against the way in which the local roads are repaired, it being considered that the present m<thod is too extravagant and very unworkmanlike.

HALL SHAREHOLDERS

At the annual meeting of the shareholders of the loc A Public Flail, held recently, Mr I). F. Kiane was elected chairman, Mr U. L.uer, secretary and treasurer, anil Mr A Mahoney, c tretaker.
