MERCER.
STATIONMASTER'S APPEAL The Railway Appeal Board commenced its sitting yesterday morning, when the first of two appeals set down for hearing to-day was partly dealt with. Mr. J. G, L Hewitt, B.M. is chairman, and with him are Mr A. W. Hutchings, representing the first division, and 'Mr Lee, second division member. The appeal was lodged by Wm. W. Ridgely, stationmaster at Mercer (represented by Mr H. Williams) on the ground that he had been superseded for promotion to grade, 6 The opinion of the Department was that the appellant lacked the necessary force of character and personalty for promotion to the next grade. Evidence was given by Mr A. Duncan, district traffic manager and Mr A. E. O'Loughlin Ohakune). No objection was made to appellant's work. He was recognised as being an accurate, careful and painstaking officer. Additional evidence is being taken this afternoon.— " Star."
