PAPATOETOE.
The Mar.ukau County Council at its meeting on Tuesday list received a ieport of the Commission appointed to inquire and report respecting the proposed constitution of a Papatoetoe Town District. The Commissioners, Messrs H?.-M. Skee*, Commissioner of Crown -Lands and E Morgan, District Valuer, in their report stated that the general feeling of all who gave evidence at the sitting which tuok pldpe on Jaiiuiry 28th last, appeared to b- that oompac f ness of shape was desirable and that hs fat as possible roads should not form boundaries They pointed out that practically the only objection was in regard to the exclusion of a portion of swamp land that formed an awkward shaped triangle on the western corner. Il.ving given full consideration to the evidence tendered and having made a eaieful inspection of the whole district they were of the opinion that the time had arrived whon a Town District should be formed. They were also of theopiuion that with the increased progress which it was reasonable to assumo would be made in the near future, it would not he long before an extension of tho town area would be n quired Th» y f.lso pointed out in connection w'th their recommendation that present settlemont in the district does not indicate the railway station as the centre of expansion The tendency so far had been towards the Great South r.md, on which were situated ihe scho >l, sports grounds and » sundry places of busiue s Future extension of the area would be guided by circumstances, hut for the present the commissioners were of oviuion that. ;ho bust iuterests of the district would be served by male iug us compact a block as p issible of the exi itiug residential and busiuess areas Tiiey therefore recommend tbat a Town District be formed comprising the area shown in an accompanying plan and description. We may add for the benefit of our readers that a portion of the swamp land referred to above has been included in the newly constituted Town District's area.
