MANUREWA.
A meeting of residents of Manurewa and district convened by the Town Board, is to _be held in the Public Hall to-morrow (Wednesday) at 8 p.m for the purpose of considering the matter of tne erection of a suitable war memorial and also for arranging the form of peace celebration. The annual general meeting of members of the Manurewa branch of the Victoria League was held in the Manure a Public Hall on Thursday afternoon of last week, when the Rev. W. C. Wood, of Papakura, presided oyer a good attendance of members. The chairman referred to the excellent work accomplished by the League and congratulated the members on the successful year's undertaking. Mrs Edmunds, a member of the Auckland League, was present and gave a short address on the work of the organisation She urged upon members the necessity of keeping the objects and work of the Lsague in existence for at least another Bix months in order that materials on hand could be used up to the best advartaga. Mrs Edmunds expressed pleasure at ami eulogised the magnificent work accomplised by the Manurewa ladies since the inception of the organisation. The annual leport, as submitted by the secretary, Mrs P. Mellors, showed that the membership of the branch was over 60. L was also stated that during three years 780 garments and 268 pairs of socks had been sent to Auckland fjt Red Cross purposes. The retiring president, Mrs Muir, did not seek re election and general regret was ex pressed at her resignation, Mrs Brown being elected to fill the vacancy. Other officers were reelected The ordinary monthly meeting of the Manurewa Town Board will be held in the r ublic Hall, Manurewa, on Monday hext.
