TOWN BOARD VACANCIES.
Polling to fill the vacancy on the Tuakau Town Board created by Mr J. H. Craig's death took place on Friday last, the result being that Mr Dynes Fulton secured the substantial majority of 94 votes over Mr J. J. Dromgool, the votes being—Fulton 129; Dromgool, 35. Mr Fulton, it will be remembered, figured at the bottom of the successful candidates (namely, seventh on the list) at the biennial election, held last September, and . thinking that the name indicated that the electors had lost confidence in him as Chairman of the Board he resigned his seat. Of late, however, discord has prevailed on the Board, culminating in three resignations, atjd Mr Fulton was persuaded to again come forward in support of the old Board's policy. Previous to the by-election the number of members on the Board did not constitute a legal quorum, and consequently matters pertaining to the welfare of Tuakau were stagnant. Now that the necessary number of four to form a quorum has been secured the Board can transact business as before, and the ordinary monthly meeting will be held next Tuesday. .For the three vacancies on the jbout by the resignations of Mess&- W- Barnaby. VV. J. Deeble, and W. Gubbj six candidates have been nominated, viz, Messrs W. Barnaby, J. J. Drom gool, C. E. Finch, W G. Graham, W. Gubb, and J. Pirret. Polling takes place next Wednesday. It is understood that Messrs Barnaby, Finch, and Pirret are running on a " ticket" in support of the old Board's policy. The usual procedure of fixing the statutory weekly half-holiday in Tuakau will be carried out at a special meeting of the Town Bard to be held on Tuesday, the 14th instant.
