FRANKLIN COUNTY COUNCIL.
ROAD WO .<K AND TENDERS
At the meeting of the Franklin County Council on Thursday of last week the following tenders were received for work under the jurisdiction of the Council:
Contract No. 345-For forming and culverting six miles 63 chains of the Mangatangi-Newßrighton road, engineer's estimate, £2,115:-C. R. Stanley, Morrinsville, £1,985 10s (accepted); Messrs H. 0. Flaherty and J. G. Gilbert, £2,399 Is lOd; Messrs E. Keen and W. G. Close, £2,344; Messrs Torpy Bros , £2,073 12s Contract No. 346-For forming and culverting one mile 28 chains of the Patumahoe to Waiau road : Messrs Burnside Bros., Papatoetoe, £Bso.—This was not accepted, the engineer and Or Montgomerie being empowered to endeavour to let the work on better terms. Contract No. 347- For forming and culverting one mile 20f chains of the Waiuku to Drury toad, engineer's estimate, £314 :—Mr A. J Moore, Patumahoe, £316 18s 7d (accepted"!. Contract No 348-For forming and culverting Mission Bush road, Glenbrook, one mile in length: - John Golding, Waiuku, £602.-Not accepted, and left in the hands of the engineer. Contract No. 351—For forming 13 chiins of the Pollok to Awhitu Central road:— Messrs Kemp and Pike, £66 10s —Not accepted, and left in the hands of the engineer. Contract No. 353—For conveying 1500 subic yards of broken metal from the railway station at Papakura to the Papakura-Waiau road at Karaka:—Mr W. E. Patterson, 9s a cubio yard.—An informal tender of 5s 6d was received from Mr Geo Thompson, Manurewa.—The matter was left in the hands of Cr Montgomerie and the engineer, with power No tenders were received for the following works, viz : Contract No 349 : For forming and culverting McElwain's road, Glenbrook, 75 chains in length. Contract No. 350: Foe forming 25 chains of the Helvetia to Paerata road. Contract No 352: For forming 25 chains of the Te Tora wharf road. FINANCE. The County Treasurer (Mr Alan P. Day) reported that the debit balance on the County Fund account stood at £17,549 4s 3d, and that amounts due for Government grants expended and temporary advances to loan accounts amounted to approximately £I,OOO. Accounts now payable from this account amounted to £936 14s lOd, made up as follows : - General (including crusher, etc), £252 8s 7d; Awhitu riding, £l7 8s Drury riding, £63 19s 8d; Hunua riding, £l9 8d; Mauku riding, £46 17s 9d; Mercer riding, £26 3s 6.1; Pukekohe East riding, £sl 16s 4d ; Pukekohe West riding, £2O 16s 9d ; Waipipi riding, £34 6s 4.1; Waiuku riding, £3l 12s 8d; Laud Fund account, £25 Is Hd; Interest ac counts, £344 Is 4d; Governments grants, £2 14s. Credit balances on various loans were stated to be as follows:—Hunua riding road loan (1914), £l3 16s 9d; Arrowsville road loan, Aka Aka, £4lB 0s 9i ; Moumoukai Ya ley loin, £224 Is 2d; Hunua roads loan (1917), £759 lis 3d (less Si 14s accounts payable); Waiau-Karaka loan, £6,722 5s 7d (less £l9 lis Id accoun-8 payable); MangatangiNew Brighton loan, £1,166 Us Id (less £ll9 13s 8d accounts payable); Mai >ro top road gaia bridges loan, £177 9s. The report was adopted.
