MAUKU
The death of Mr Robert Carpenter from influenza at the Pukekohe Temporary Hospital last Saturday afternoon will cause a general feeling of regret in the Mauku district, where he had been farming for a number of years past. The son of the late Mr J. H Carpenter of Remuera, he originally engaged in sheep-farmiDg at Mairoa, about fifteen miles to the west of Te Kuid. Some eight or nine years ago ho sold his holding (here and bought a dairy farm at Mauku, where ho has since resided. Ho leave? a widow, for whom general sympathy is felt, but no family. The deceased's brother, Mr B. C Carpenter, a member of the Fukekohe staff of the Bank of New Zealand, is still in tho Auckland Hospital suffering from pneumonia but is making steady progress towards recovery Amongst the fatal cases of influenza has been that of Mrs Alice Elizabeth Vivian Haszard, who passed away at Invercargill on the 18th ult. The deceased lady was a daughter of the late Major Wily, of Mauku, and sister of Mr H. E. R. Wily.
