MERCER.
Mercer is fast emerging from the grip of the influenzfi epidemic, and only one or two serious cases now exist in the township. The condition of Mr A. 0. Trife is one of the cases that is causing! anxiety. The temporary hospital vat was established in the Public Hall was closed yesterday. Any further extension of the epidemic is unlikely, as, with few exceptions, the residents have all been affected. Mercer was one of the first of the country districts to be attacked by the and the fact that the death-roll was comparatively light was due to the prompt steps taken by the Town and more particularly by the Chairman of that body (Mr H. 8. in converting the Public Hall ink) a temporary hospital, where sufferers we • properly attended to. With Mercer Dot being in possession of a chamist, or of a resident doctor, this itep became imperative, and was attend with highly beneficial results. Since the Hospital Board have, in the meantime, assumed responsibility for the t-mporary hospitals established in other centres it will only be reasonable if they recoup the Mercer Town Board for the expenditure curred, as otherwise the people of Mercer will be unfairly penalised for taking active steps to cope menace, the Town Board's grinds naturally being extremely limited under any circumstances.
