FRANKLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
The following business was transacted at the meeting of the Franklin County Council last Friday subsequent to our going to press that afternoon, viz.: MARAVARtM 9TKEAM. A letter was read from Mrs 0. Downey, Maramarua, enquiring if the Council would be inclined to contribute £5 towards providing a suitable crossing over the Maramarua stream leading to her property. Or Hille mentioned that the crossing was used a good deal by ratepayers and he proposed that the sum of £5 should be granted to Mrs Downey towards the improvement. This was agreed to and the Clerk was directed to reply to that effect. TRAMWAY ROAD. Cr Woods asked for the transfer of land adjoining the Tramway Road to be expedited but the Clerk explained that certain legal difficulties had arisen and it was possible that a clause would have to be inserted in the next Washing-up Bill to overcome them. WAITJKUI'UKBKOnE ROAD. Cr Reid reported that a portion of the Waiuku-Pukekohe Road known as " Morley's corner " was generally regarded as a dangerous corner for motors and other vehicles and* it was resolved that a deputation should wait on Mr Spencer Robinson, the owner of the adjoining land, with a view to some improvement being effected." FINANCE. The Clerk reported that there was a debit balance of £12,744 7s lid on the County Fund Account Transfers frdm Loan Accounts, amounts due for Government Grants expended and temporary advances to Loan accounts due to the account amounted io approximately £2500. Aooounti amounting to £2307 17s 5d were passed for payment made up as follows : General (including crusher, etc), £613 2s sd; Awhitu Riding, £179 16s 6d ; Drury Riding, £248 9s 5d ; Hunuaßiding, £SB lis 5d ; Mauku Riding, £302 7s 8d ; Mercer Riding, £lO3 6s 6d; Pukekohe East Riding, £125 6s 4d ; Pukekohe West Riding, £164 12s lOd ; Waipipi Riding, £lO2 6s Id, Waiuku Riding, £lO2 2s 9d ; Government Grants, £ll4 13s 9d ; Interest Accounts, £lB3 13s 4d ; Contractors' Deposits, £3 10s 2d ; Land Fund Account, £5 9s Id. The following balances on Loan Accounts were reported: Hunua Riding Roads Loan, £3l 6s 9d (credit); Arrowsville Road Loan (Aka Aka), £4lB 0s 9d (credit); Moumoukai Road Loan, £323 Is lOd (credit); Hunua (1917) Special Loan £25 15s (debit); Jamieson's Road Loan, £lO 17s 3d (debit). The report was adopted MISCELLANEOUS
On the recommendation of the Finance Committee it was resolved that steps should be taken to secure an assistant for the Clerk's office, the appointment being left to the Chairman.
A letter was read from Mr Harper offering to contribute the sum of £3OO for the erection of abridge and approaches on the road leading to the Jesmond Estate at Eunciman. He added that he was prepared to form the estate into a Special Hating Area and if necessary would arrange for the loan.—Or Montgomerie said that there had been a bridge in existence for 30 or 40 years and it required renewing.—lt was agreed that Mr Harper's offer should be accepted and that the Clerk should take the necessary steps to form a Special Sating Area as suggested.
