On Monday afternoon a pleasant little ceremony took place on Takanini station platform when Mr C. H. Lupton, on behalf of the residents, presented Mr David Thompson with an illuminated wristlet watch, as a mark of their appreciation of his services as porter. The call to serve King and Country has come to Mr Thompson and during his time at Takanini his unfailing courtesy and kindness have won for him the esteem and regard of the settlers.'
