WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE
Pukekohe Branch The Executive meeting of the Pukekohe Branch of the Women's Patriotic League was held in the Borough Council rooms, Pukekohe, on Monday, March 11 th. Present • Miss Webster (in the chair), Mesdames Webb, Stuart, Motion, Mcßae, Baxter (Secretary), and Miss Usher.
A letter was read from Mrs Gunson (Auckland President) acknowledging the receipt of three large parcels of knitted goods also thanking the members for interest taken in this work and hoping it would continue.
Accounts amounting to £9 5s 2d were passed for payment. The following new members were duly elected, vfc , Mrs Lyne and Miss Rowles.
The President reported that 179 Dominion Gift Parcels had been collected for tbe month. Miss Usher, convenor of the Sewing Committee, reported having made and sent to headquarters six suits of pyjamas. Permission was granted the convenor to purchase what material she required to m ake up for the sewing stall at the coming show. The convenor further stated she would be very glad to receive names of anyone willing to help wi'h the sewing, at" garments of all kinds are required for the comfort of our lads while on active service
Miss Webster, temporary convenor of the Entertainment Committee, reported that arrangements were well in hand for the Show to be held in Apiil and she hoped all the members would endeavour to m ike thi.« fixture one of the best vet hell. Mrs Stuart, convenor of the Literature Committee, reported having packed and sent awav the usual monthly box of books. She also stated that books were coming in very freely for which she wished to' thank the donors.
Mrs Baxter, convenor of the Knitting Committee, reported having packed and sent to Auckland one parcel of knitted goods made up of 16 pairs sox, five scarves, eight caps and six pairs mittens. The convenor said she would be glad to receive names of anyone willing to knit sox (wool supplied) as these articles were being repeatedly asked for and it is their duty to give what comfort Ihey could to the boys who were doing so much for them. The following is a list of workers: Pyjamas Mesdames Dell and Turner, 2 pair each ; Misses Fausett and Usher, 1 pair each. Socks - Mrs Wright (Bombay) . r ) pairs, Miss Meikle (Pollok) 3 pairs, Mrs Harper 2 pairs, Mesdames Robinson, McKeown, Len«han, E. Stevenson and Miss Snell (Puni) one pair cadi. Caps—Miss Goldsworthy 3, Mrs Keith 2, Mesdames McHae, Kimber and Miss Virgie Kimber one each. Scarves—Mesdames Mcßae, R. J. Stevenson, G. Brown, Kimber and Miss Virgie Kimber one each. Mittens —Misses Snell, Bregman, E Hudson, D. Enwright, P. Hudson, and P. Sedgwick one each. Miss Usher donated one pair socks.
