MANUREWA
RED CROSS GATHERING On December the 11th tho ladies of the Victoria League held a Red Cross supper for the purpose of raising funds to purchase material for their good work aud tho gathering was a great success, the net sum of £2fi fid yd beipg taken. Mr C. Coxh6ad kindly presented a fat lamb for a weight guessing competition, the winner handing it back to the ladies to be sold by auction. After being disposed of no less than five times the animal was finally bought back by Mr Coxhead. The feature of the evening was a monster Christmas tree, smothered with toys for the children, aud thie afforded much amusement for the younger folks. Songs were rendered by Miss Wood, and Messrs Seaton and Cummings. The supper was a departure from the Red Cross teas which have been such a success in Manurewa and was indeed a good idea giving all an opportunity to be present The most remarkable fact is that the proceeds from the functions are | gradually increasing instead of dwindling, thus testifying to the splendid patriotism and giving power of the residents of Manurewa. J Hiring the evening the ladifs took tho opportunity of presenting Mrs Brinsmead, who is about to leave tho distiict, with a handsome silver tea pot in recognition of the services she has rendered to the Manurewa Victoria League. * T mmm
