PAPAKURA.
PAPAKUBA TOWN BOARD At the adjourned meeting of the Papakura Town Board, held on Thursday last, a petition to be signed by ratepayers desiring to be included in the proposed extension of the Town Board's area was drawn up and approved by the Boaad and the Clerk was instructed to obtain the necessary signatures for submission to the Governor. Mr W. N. Mcintosh applied to Board for permission to encroach on Elliot street during re-building operations at the Papakura hotel, he i having secured the contract for the same. The application was granted. On the suggestion of Mr Markwick the Clerk was instructed to write to the Railway District Engineer asking for the Department's permission to open a track 10 feet wide from the end of Averil street to the railway line so as to provide better access to the station for pedestrians. Mr Markwick, in moving the resolution, mentioned that no expense would be incurred to the Board. Notice of the alteration of names of certain streets in Papakura, as decided on by the Town Board, will be found in our advertising columns in this issue. The re-naming takes effect as from January Ist next. Mr W. Mcintosh, of Papakura, has secured tbe contract for the erection of the new Papakura hotel. It is understood the building is to be completed in 15 week's time. Under the auspices of the Red Cross Guild a very successful "coin" tea and garden fete were held on Mr Bell's lawn on Wednesday afternoon when there was a good attendance, various competitions and at tiaciions being provided. The financial result was in every way encouraging. In the evening a concert took place in the Methodist Hall, the Vicar (the Rev W. C Wood) presiding, 'ihose who contributed songs were the Mrs Sharp, the Misses Moon, Yardley, E. Johnsun, Kerr, and Messrs T. C. Sea ton and A. W. Keepa, while MrT. J. Corin gave a recitation. During the interval the Chairman auctioned the gifts donated to the League and also declared Mrs James as the winner of the soldier's cake competition, the weight being slbs 6ozs and Mrs James' estimate being slbs 6J<;z
