AUCKLAND MARKET REPORT

Mr J. Jones, auctioneer, Victoria and Lome streets, Auckland, reports under date of the 15th inst., as follows : The fruit and produce market this week has livened up considerably and an exceptionally large volume of business has been done. The poultry market was very heavily supplied and for young killable roosters, and young ducks and turkeys very high prices were realised. We penned a record number of birds and on the whole the quality was good. Competition for all heavy birds was keen, Pigs are in good demand. Potatoes and onions are lower. Fruit is still selling well. Butter and eggs are firmer in value. Turkeys and geese are in strong demand. We quote: Poultry, 3460 penned : Roosters, extra choice, young, heavy up to 7s 4d, good 5s to 5s Bd, smaller 3s 6d to 4s sd, old roosters 2s 6d to 3s, heavy hens 3s 3d to 4s 3d, good 3s to 3s 2d, lighter 2s 6d to 2s 9d, small 2s to 2s 2s, cockrells 2s «d to 2s 9d, chicks 3d to 7d, turkey gobblers 12s 6d to 25s 6d according to size, hen turkeys 6s 9d to 10s 9d, geese 7s to Bs, pigs 15s to £1 9s 6d, ducks young 3s to 4s lOd, old ducks Is 9d to 2s sd. Fruit: Apples 18s 6d, plums 3s 9d to 5s 6d, gooseberries 7s to 9s 4d, passions 10s 6d, bananas 4d Farm produce: Potatoes prime 10sto lis, good 8s 6d to 9s9d, small £5, old potatoes £2 10s to £3 10s, onions 18s to 20s, butter Is 2d, eggs Is 5d to Is 7d ; hams Is 2d, side Is Id.
