DRURY

SUCCESSFUL PATRIOTIC GATHERING A recent function organised by the Women's Patriotic League for the purpose of raising funds to provide comforts for the wounded soldiers was, socially and financially a great success. The programme embraced a sale of goods and a musical entertainment, followed by a dance. Mr Joseph Flanagan, as chairman, was in his element and on opening the sale gave a concise account of what the women had done in the past and what they expected to achieve in the future. He exhorted those present to spend freely for such a patriotic cause. Soon guessing competition# were in full swing and sales were being made at the various stalls presided over by the officers of the League assisted by the younger members. All worked most energetically. Others supplied musical selections during the evening. The financial proceeds of the evening were £54 and there is still 25s to come in. This amount exceeds the most sanguine forecasts of the most optimistic of the League. Mr Glasson, towards the close of the proceedings, proved himself a very capable salesman. Tha supper provided by the League members was all that could be desired. Music was supplied for the dances by Messrs Morgan and Cossey, and the M's.C., Messrs Tooman and Hill, were adequately appreciated.
